Transitions/Life Skills

The transitions department supports students in their personal transition from middle school to high school and from high school to adulthood. The transitions department works on preparing students to become the adults they want to be. In transitions classes, students are taught the skills needed to reach their desired goals in the areas of employment, post-secondary education and independent living. Students receive direct instruction and coaching in social skills, interpersonal development, and skills related to self-determination, including decision making, goal setting, problem-solving and self advocacy. Students also learn practical hands-on life skills in areas of home living, employment and navigating community resources. As much as possible, our department uses community based instruction and experiential learning to allow our students to practice and apply their skills in the real world and reflect on the outcomes of real life situations.
